Celebrating a Decade of Tap Dance at Taps on Tap

Thank you so much for celebrating our 10 year anniversary with us this year at Taps on Tap! Ten years ago, six tap dancers walked into a coffee shop and lit the spark that ignited Rocky Mountain Rhythm. In 2015, a community was forming, one timestep at a time, to create Colorado's premiere professional tap dance company. RMR founder Claire Sheek started the company with a powerful vision: to revive the tap dance scene she remembered from her youth and bring tap dance back to the forefront of dance performance and education. She sought to reignite a passion for tap’s rich history, its intricate technique, and the creativity of its choreography. We owe Claire an immense amount of gratitude for the foundations she established which have been instrumental in shaping RMR into the success that it is today.

It’s been an exciting year for RMR as we transitioned into 501(c)3 status in September, an original goal that Claire had ten years ago. Our continued commitment to advancing tap dance throughout Colorado remains my vision for the future of our company. Because of the support we have received this year, we were able to provide over 50 free community tap classes, free and affordable performances, and fair compensation for our dancers.

A special thank you to our studio sponsor Helen Estrella and the team at Motion Dance Center for providing us with a studio home, to Aaron Vega, Shannon Altner and team at The People’s Building for hosting Taps on Tap again this year, to our incredible board of directors, to our silent auction donors, to all of our directors for their tireless efforts to continue growing our company, to everyone who took community class this year or donated to our mission, and to all of you for your continued support of RMR! Here’s to the next decade of tap dance in Colorado!
